Cover Love - Goodreads Challenge Color
Do not let the color on the graphic for the Goodreads Reading Challenge this year make you shy away from picking a book because of its cover on this list. This maroon thing gives off a vibe of young girl, for some reason. I think it’s because the covers that stand out all have a similar vibe. Anyway, that vibe is really inaccurate. This list is surprisingly diverse and as you probably know, I don’t often go out of my way to check diversity on cover love posts.
Anyway, here’s your post of books that feature the same color as the Goodreads Reading Challenge button.

Not feeling judgy?
I specifically liked A Perilous Undertaking (second in a cozy, historical mystery series starring a woman of science and some romantic dalliances - link goes to the first), A Marvellous Light (first in a STEAMY queer fantasy historical series with excellent magic and great characters), Carry On (first in a queer fantasy adventure series that I’ve probably talked about 100 times and if you haven’t read it yet and you like fantasy, just do yourself this favor please), and City of Girls (a realistic homage to New York City of old, an ode to female friendships and the family you make, and a petition to the young to live life to the fullest).
I’ve enjoyed other things by the authors of The Dead and the Dark (horror mystery), Aetherbound (science fiction featuring queer characters), The Bad Ones (horror mystery), The Blood Years (historical WWII Romania from the Jewish perspective, based on a true story), Four Eids and a Funeral (diverse romance - actually co-written but the author I know is fantastic and multi award-winning), and Phantom Limb (thriller mystery - author is a clinical psychologist and researcher in childhood trauma).
And some other things of note:
Rachel Kushner, author of Creation Lake is a two time National Book Award finalist
Society of Lies was chosen by Reese’s Book Club and is probably my favorite cover on this list
Amber McBride, author of We Are All So Good At Smiling, is also a National Book Award finalist
If you’re on the Fourth Wing or ACOTAR train, Butcher & Blackbird should be on your list. It’s on mine.
This Spells Disaster is my favorite title on this list
Tiffany D. Jackson, author of White Smoke, is a beloved author for young people
Cemetery Boys won a ton of awards
Read books and, in a minor effort not to ignore the major election that occurred in the US last week, fuck the patriarchy. xoxo Lai
